It's time again for Boise Music Week - a Treasure Valley tradition since 1919. Visit boisemusicweek.org for details. Events run from May 2 thru May 12, kicking off with our GALA Celebration as part of First Thursday at JUMP - enjoy music, dance, and theater for adults and children, with a special (ticketed) performance by our own Del Parkinson. May 3: International Dance Night (Borah High), scheduled performers include America Taps, Ballet Folklorico, Mexico Lindo Idaho, Boise Highlanders Dancers, Flamenco Idaho, Global Lounge, Indian Creek Western Swing, Killarney Irish Dance, Mladi Behar Dancers, and Traditional Chinese Dance. May 4: Music in the Park (Julia Davis Park), Emceed' by KTVB's Larry Gebert, enjoy an afternoon of a variety of music by local instrumental/vocal groups including The Mulligan Band, Walk and Roll (barbershop), Elias Pierson and more. May 4: All That's Jazz (Borah High), emceed' by KTVB's Jim Duthie, featuring home-grown professionals including The Van Paepeghem Quintet, up-and-coming student jazz singers David Le and Robyn O’Donahue, the DC3 jazz combo, and the Emily Braden Quartet. May 5: “Song of the Basque II – The Legacy Continues” (Morrison Center for the Performing Arts) will entertain the audience with traditional songs and dances augmented by photos and video projections including some from the original 1949 "Song of the Basque" Boise Music Week production. May 5: Church Night (First Methodist Cathedral of the Rockies), Organ Prelude – Dr. Mark Hansen. Opera Children’s Chorus, Homily by Rabbi Daniel Fink of Abavah Beth Israel. Jazz Mass/Cantata by Kevin Kirk will be presented by Kevin at the keyboard along with local vocal and instrumental musicians directed by Jim Jirak. May 6 thru May 9: Noon Organ Recitals (St. Michael's Cathedral). Come join us for 45 minutes of breathtaking organ music each day featuring a local Organ Master - Douglas Keilitz (Monday), Ryan Dye (Tuesday), Robert Schmidt (Wednesday), and Tom Harris (Thursday). May 6: Children’s Music Adventures with Paige Moore, [Boise Public Library – Main Branch] In every Adventure, classical music and fun reign, with all participants becoming part of Stravinsky’s ballet of the classic Russian fairytale “The Firebird.” They’ll play golden apples with the princesses, fight the monsters with Prince Ivan, and celebrate when good triumphs. May 6: Showcase Concert (Borah High) THE AMERICAN PIANO DUO, featuring Jeffrey Shumway and Del Parkinson on twin pianos, and the TREASURE VALLEY CONCERT BAND conducted by Marcellus Brown.The evening offers a terrific selection of musical genres from classical composers to Broadway musicals, famous marches to Gershwin's “Rhapsody in Blue”. May 7: Children’s Music Adventures, (Boise Public Library – Main Branch) “Music Carnival”, an open-house style event with 8 different booths sponsored by the Boise Public Library Children’s Librarians. There will be music games, music crafts, instrument making, dancing, prizes, and a lot of music. May 7: School Night (Taco Bell Arena) Performances by ensembles representing the Boise School District - the Kiwanis Boys Choir, Elementary Honor Choir, Intermediate Honor Band and Intermediate Honor Orchestra, the United Junior High Choir, Junior High Honor Orchestra, United High School Choir, United High School Orchestra, United High School Jazz Band, as well as a selected High School Jazz Choir and High School Orchestra. The concert will include over 2,000 student vocalists and instrumentalists. May 8: Variety Night (Borah High) This concert will feature amazingly varied artists and music such as Essential Jazz, Cantus’s VoiceOver, Critical Mass, the Boise Men’s Chorus, IPA Barbershop Quartet, and more. May 9: Children’s Music - Let’s Play Music (Boise Public Library – Main Branch) A music celebration event with different stations sponsored by the Treasure Valley Let’s Play Music teachers. There will :be instruments to play, songs to write, and lots of puppet shows. May 9 thru 12:“Thoroughly Modern Millie” (Morrison Center for the Performing Arts),
A zany romantic spoof of the Roaring Twenties, and a musical that won an Oscar for best Original Music Score! The all local cast under the directorship of Jonathon Perry will stun you with their amazing talent. Stage Manager is Dianna McAllister, Assistant Director is Patti Finley, Choreographer is Dugan Jackman, Vocal Director is Barbara Oldenburg, Orchestra Director is Kelley Smith, Head of Costumes is Judy Zink, and Head of Production is Allyn Krueger. May 10: Organ and Silent Movie Concert (Egyptian Theatre) Enjoy the magic and fun of the silent movie. Sean Rogers will be playing the Robert Morton Theatre Organ in concert, and accompanying a classic Silent Movie starring Laurel and Hardy.
