Katrinka Mannelly - Section 130
Katrinka Mannelly writes and lives in Tacoma, Washington with her husband Brian, daughter Tigist, and cat Riptide. She is a storyteller and always has been. Katrinka’s first book, Section 130, explores what supernatural beings—siren, fey, zombies, demons, Sasquatch and more can teach us about being human.
Section 130 gets its name from the Dewey Decimal system. Section 130 is the mysterious library shelf that contains everything from angels to witches, spirits to mermaids. Like many children, Katrinka devoured these books, working her way through countless titles, studying magical creatures and imagining what encounters with them might be like. As an adult she is still enamored with the inhabitants of section 130, but life has provided a more cynical view. What if interactions with mythical beings were awkward, mundane or funny? Or what if they were extraordinary in the most unanticipated of ways?
For the last two decades Katrinka’s been developing content and writing text for all manner of museums, covering everything—robots to religion, treaties to tigers. She has penned outlines, scripts and exhibit text for over 30 museums, zoos and aquariums across the country including Seattle’s MOHAI (Museum of History and Industry), the Boston Children’s Museum, and the Smithsonian, National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.
