WITHIN THE SILENCE

Friday, April 26, 2019, 2:00 AM

In 1942 Roosevelt's Executive order 9066 imprisoned thousands of loyal American families. These innocent citizens struggled to maintain their families while incarcerated. Witness this silent chapter of our history. Share one Japanese American family's fight to sustain faith and love in the country they love.  Living Voices combines live theatrical performances with archival film, turning history into a moving personal journey.

Presented by Wassmuth Center for Human Rights and Living Voices

Following the performance, hear from journalist and historian Ken Mochizuki, What Was Known Then, And What Is Known Now, To Write “Within the Silence”
Ken Mochizuki is the author of the award-winning and bestselling children's picture books Baseball Saved Us, Heroes and Passage to Freedom: The Sugihara Story. He is also the author of the picture book, Be Water My Friend: The Early Years of Bruce Lee and the young adult novel, Beacon Hill Boys. He is also the writer of the Living Voices performance piece "Within the Silence," and a musical version of Baseball Saved Us staged by Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre.
